Raw Ruby and Coral Necklace
Sometimes a client will surprise me in the most delightful way. Mike contacted me about a ‘simple ruby necklace’ to give his wife for their 40th anniversary. Larger rubies (over a carat) were out of the budget on their own, aside from the metal and labor cost; but a small underwhelming stone just didn’t seem right for such a special occasion. He mentioned she loves the beach so I drew a few simple options with shells, seahorses and on a whim threw in a sketch of this piece. I had picked up two of these rubies at a gem show thinking they would be earrings; the coral I found washed up on a beach. It seemed a bit wacky considering what he had asked for but this was what he picked! And boy was it fun to make.
